I’ve never baked scones before and have been looking for a recipe that was light and easy to make and found this recipe by Gav’s Kitchen @recipesformen.com a while ago. This took me less than 30 minutes from start to end and was so easy to make.
I baked it in the morning and enjoyed it with a cappuccino as my breakfast.
Ingredients:
500g Self-raising Flour
50g Castor Sugar
Pinch of Salt
100g Salted Butter (softened)
300ml Milk
1 Egg (beaten with a little milk)
Method
1. Pre-heat the oven to 200°C.
2. Mix the Flour, Salt, and Sugar in a bowl and then rub the Butter in until fully mixed.
3. Add the Milk a little at a time and mix until you have a dough, don’t over mix/knead it. Work carefully.
4. On a floured surface carefully knead the dough until it has a equal consistency. (If you wish to have fruit(raisins) in your scones then add that now to the dough.)
5. Now roll it out to about 2.5cm thickness and cut out the dough with a round cutter, you can also use a tumbler if you don’t have a cutter.
6. Place on a baking tray with parchment paper.
7. Glaze with the Egg mixture to give a shiny surface and bake in the oven for about 12 minutes until brown.
Remove from the oven and place on a wire tray, and cover with the cloth to keep fresh until cooled.
Serve with cream & jam, jam & cheese or just butter and Enjoy!
